The most beautiful bike tour on Rügen

The most beautiful bike tour on Rügen: From Sassnitz to the Königsstuhl

Sassnitz – not just a starting point and destination

Whether in summer or autumn: Rügen can also be easily explored by bike. As a leisurely excursion with the whole family, a sporty tour with like-minded people or romantic togetherness with your “better half”. Cycling is simply fun and keeps you fit and healthy!

Our favourite tour is particularly suitable for families with children. It leads from Sassnitz to the Königsstuhl, the landmark of Rügen:

The harbour town of Sassnitz is always worth a visit!

For many centuries Sassnitz was a sleepy fishing village and only received town status in 1957.
Today Sassnitz is a popular seaside resort, with a ferry port, railway connection and right next to the national park.

Stroll through the beautiful old town or along the beach promenade.
The pedestrian suspension bridge takes you from the town centre to the harbour. There you will find the longest outer pier in Europe! It offers rewarding photo motifs of the beautiful spa architecture of Sassnitz, the chalk cliffs and the sea! The kids will simply enjoy being close to the wind and waves “so far out”! The butterfly garden and the zoo are further – family-friendly – attractions in Sassnitz.

Whether before the cycling trip or afterwards, take time to enjoy the flair of Sassnitz!

Cycling tour for the whole family

Kreidefelsen Rügen

This tour leads through the beautiful beech forests of the Jasmund National Park and is also easy for children.

We start in the north of Sassnitz, about 200 metres after the end-of-town sign. There are signs for the cycle path towards Königsstuhl/National Park on the left-hand side.
From there on there is no car traffic, so the little ones can cycle safely. The route is only 12 kilometres long with moderate gradients.
The cycle path leads along well-maintained forest paths to the Königsstuhl National Park Centre.

There you will not only find an interesting natural history exhibition, but also spectacular views over the chalk cliffs and the Baltic Sea. And, of course, there is also the opportunity to stop for a bite to eat before returning to Sassnitz.

Worthwhile detours from this route are the legendary Hertha Lake and the Hagen Tree House.

Alternative for sporty cyclists

If you want to work off more energy on your bike tour, choose the 40-kilometre round trip, which involves 200 metres of altitude gain.

Parts of this route run on the road. From Sassnitz, we first head west to Sagard and then on to Polchow.
From there we cycle, now mostly on small paths and forest roads, through forests and meadows, over the bridge of the natural Spyker Lake and Weddeort to Glowe.
The picturesque coastal village of Glowe is ideal for enjoying a lunch break with a view of the sea.

Then continue east on the L30. Shortly after Ruschvitz, we turn left onto the L303, which leads through several small settlements. Then we turn left again until we reach Lohme. From there we cycle on to the Jasmund National Park and the Königsstuhl National Park Centre.
Then we take the cycle path back to Sassnitz.

At the family hotel AQUAMARIS Strandresidenz Rügen you can rent bikes and e-bikes, relax in the wellness area after the bike tour and treat your tired muscles to a massage.
